Title Sequence: Inspiration

This is by far one of my favorite animated title sequences for a movie. It was designed by Susan Bradley for the animated film Monsters, Inc. The color and music create a fun, upbeat rhythm for the shapes (namely doors) and creatures (various monsters) to interact and move along with. The bright color scheme and playful movement of the various visual elements perfectly represents the mood of the movie: It is a film about kids and "adults" (monsters) that can be enjoyed and understood by all ages. The motion of the moving doors creates the perfect kinetic flow for the typography to follow. The designer was brilliant with all the interaction of image and type. The way the doors open to reveal the credits or pour them out only to have the monsters gobble them up and spit them out. The motion of the typography also makes it expressive because it gives it character (almost like it has a mind of its own -- especially the little "m" that runs away from the monster and reappears later). The entire sequence transitions so well from one line of credit to the next, it almost seems seamless.
