When this project was first presented to the BDS 102 classes, the possible directions you could take this seemed literally endless. The only restraints are that it has to be a printed photo collage made of 75 or more 4x6" prints and there needs to be a unifying idea or object through out the images (such as the same background or subject). Besides that, the project requirements allow you to experiment with camera angle, lighting/shadows, the idea of the 4th dimension (showing time through a series of still shots), finding a multitude of subjects or various locations. I am very excited to explore the possibilities of this project and I hope to find some success in my processes!
As of right now, I have a few different ideas I am considering focusing on:
1. A single tree and its shadow (taking numerous photos throughout the day to record how the sun effects the location and size of the shadow)
2. Staircase. A simple idea with various angles and perspectives to thoroughly explore the construction, and perhaps deeper meaning, of outdoor stairs.
3. The human figure. I am not sure quite where to go with this idea. My initial thought was based off the tree and shadow idea and I would focus on an individuals shadow. I am not sure if I want to change the location or just the position of the person's shadow. I need to experiment more with this concept.
4. Marvin Hall. I love the architecture of this building and I think it would be very interesting to experiment with capturing the various angles and perspectives of a single building. I could also explore the concept of time passing by taking photos of the building at different times of the day.
5. Capturing the entirety of a single room in a photo continuum. I would take the photos from one central location in the room and pivot the camera so that the shots would be the flow of the whole room.
So these are my loose ideas as of right now. I need to go take more photos of my chosen locations and start laying out basic collages to get a better grasp of what I want the final project to look like and how I want to go about making it.
